Winning strategies for playing blackjack

While the odds of winning at blackjack are certainly quite a bit higher than winning at the slot machines, it is important to remember that the game of blackjack still favors the dealer. Just consider, if you and the dealer both go bust by exceeding 21, you lose and the house wins.

If you are to win at blackjack, therefore, it is important to create a winning strategy, and to learn as much about the game and its rules as you can. It is important to follow these rules of the road before hitting the blackjack table at your favorite casino.

  1. Set a limit before you start gambling. It is vital for every gambler to establish the maximum he or she is willing to lose. If your losses reach that amount, come back another day and hope for better luck.
  2. Find a blackjack table where the minimum is no more than 5% of your preestablished playing total.
  3. When you choose a table, look for tables whose rules allow players to double down on two cards, or that require the dealer to stand on a soft 17. Even if you do not yet understand these rules, know that they will work to your benefit.
  4. Remember that the dealer must hit, that is take a card, if the hand is 16 or lower. This means that it will be impossible for you to win with less than a 17 unless the dealer busts (goes over 21).
  5. For this reason you should hit on any hand less than 17 if the dealer's up card is an 8 or higher.
  6. Stand on any hand over 11 if the dealer is showing a 4, 5 or a 6. These cards will lead a dealer to bust over 40% of the time.
  7. The term doubling down means you double your bet and receive an additional card. It is a good idea to double down if you feel you stand a good chance of beating the dealer. Doubling down is one of the player's most important advantages, and it is important not to ignore this option.
