Understanding The Betting Strategy Of Blackjack

There are many ways to spend your time, and gamble your money, in the average casino, but few have the allure and the timeless excitement of the game of blackjack. Blackjack is at once a simple, and a very complex game. While it is simple to understand the basic concept of the game, there is a great deal of complicated betting strategy that goes into a winning hand.

While no one blackjack tip, or set of blackjack tips, can guarantee every player a winning hand every time, following tips like the ones listed below can at least help to tip the odds in your favor.

  • The player is advised to double-down if he or she holds a two card hand totaling:
    • 9 if the dealer is showing a 3, 4, 5 or 6
    • 10 if the dealer is showing anything but than an Ace or 10
    • 11 if the dealer is showing anything other than an Ace
  • No one but an experienced and confident card counter should take the insurance offered by the casino
  • No matter what card the dealer is showing, the player should split the hand when dealt a pair of Aces or a pair of eights
  • A hand consisting of two 4s, 5s or 10s or face cards should never be split.
  • It is a good idea to hit on a soft 17 when the dealer is showing a 10. If the player stands on a 17 or lower, he or she will need to rely on the player going bust in order to win
  • The player should hit a soft 13 through 17 if the dealer is showing a 7 or higher.
  • When holding a hand containing three or more cards, the player should not hit a soft 13 through 17
  • The player should double down when holding a two card hand totaling a soft 13 through 17 if the dealer is showing a 5 or a 6.
  • The player should double down on a soft 17 if the dealer is showing a 3.
