Blackjack Strategies - Learning To Count Cards
While there are many games and diversions in the modern casino, from roulette and keno to slot machines and even bingo, few games have the excitement and appeal of the simple game of blackjack.
Perhaps the word "simple" should be in quotes, since blackjack can be a much more complicated game than it first appears. While the old saying is that anyone who can count to 21 can play blackjack, the truth is that the playing strategies of the game can become quite complex indeed.
Perhaps the most well known strategy for winning at blackjack is counting cards. There may be as many individual card counting strategies as there are blackjack players. Some of these strategies work, some do not work, and some used to work before the casinos found a way to defeat them. Each player will have to carefully review the various strategies for counting cards to find one that works. Different players will have different abilities to count cards, and not all strategies are appropriate for every player.
Card counting is easiest on a single deck table, and many experienced blackjack players seek out single deck tables on which to play. As the number of decks in play increases, it becomes more and more difficult for players to count cards. While some players seem to have the ability to track every card in a multi-card shoe, most of us do not have that ability.
While counting cards cannot of course guarantee a winning day at the blackjack table, it certainly can tip the odds in the favor of the player, and every new blackjack player should learn as much as possible about this time tested playing technique.
